Vacancy Description

Private Sector Housing Officer (Temporary cover for 12 months due to secondment)

Closing date - 17th February 2019

Interviews - week commencing 25th February 2019

One of our hardworking and dedicated officers has taken a one-year secondment opportunity to increase their experience and knowledge-base and so we have a vacancy for a temporary Private Sector Housing Officer within the Private Sector Housing team.  The emphasis in this role is on carrying out inspections and investigations of complaints about poor or hazardous housing conditions within the private rented sector, as well as inspections of houses in multiple occupations.

The Private Sector Housing team is committed to improving housing conditions and protecting residents within our area and make full and appropriate use of legislation to achieve this goal.

Although qualifications and experience are important, strong consideration will be given to candidates with a positive attitude towards this important work.

For this post you should have an appropriate qualification in an environmental health or housing related subject and ideally be experienced and competent in assessing housing conditions and in the use of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System. Experience in the drafting of formal letters and notice is also desirable, but good interpersonal skills are essential.

Reporting to the Private Sector Housing Manager, the successful candidate must be a hard working individual with a mature, responsible outlook and an ability to communicate with the public.

The post will be based in Worthing town centre, but an essential part of the role is visiting people in their home across Adur and Worthing District. You must therefore hold a full current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

The Councils operate flexible working practices.

For an informal discussion, please telephone Bruce Reynolds, Private Sector Housing Manager, on 01273 263098
