Principal Planning Officer (Major Applications)  - Development Management 

Salary: Scale 9 - £42,259 - £45,247

Hours: 37 hours per week

Come and join our friendly Development Management team and help us to shape and plan the future development of Adur District and Worthing Borough on the south coast.

Working for the Councils provides a unique experience of working for two separate planning authorities combined. It is an exciting time to work in planning at the Councils as there are a variety of planning challenges to be faced.  The area is subject to significant development pressure and a number of major regeneration schemes are planned.  Both Authorities are preparing new Local Plans seeking to balance the need to protect the environment with the need to meet future housing and employment needs.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Planning Officer to join our Development Management team which provides a joint service for Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council. The successful candidate will need to have an in depth knowledge of the planning system and be able to deal with complex and major development proposals. 

We are looking for a planner that is highly motivated and confident negotiating to deliver large scale development proposals.  Both Adur and Worthing are under considerable development pressure and there is scope to deal with a wide variety of development proposals from high density regeneration schemes to large urban extensions. An understanding of the development industry and viability appraisals will be important as the post holder will need to secure Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and negotiate s106 agreements. 

The post holder will also need to demonstrate experience of working in multi-disciplined teams to bring forward regeneration schemes and be proactive in their approach to development management.

The post holder will need to have experience of working in Development Management and be a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute. The post holder will also need to demonstrate that they are able to work flexibly and be IT literate since the Council extensively uses digital platforms to provide its services.
